Tips to prepare your home for the summer

Summer is the time of the year to give our home some much needed tender, loving care. Here are a few useful tips to get your home ready for the season.

Summer discounts

Many home maintenance and service companies offer great deals during the slow summer months. Take advantage of these deals to prepare your house for the summer, fall and winter. Consider carpet cleaning, window washing, ac cleaning and pest control.

Check your cooling units

Summer is the season to check your AC units to make sure that they are running properly. If you use the unit daily, make sure to wash its filters every month. This will not only make sure that your home is healthy but also keep your utility bills low.

While you are doing this, make sure you have the technician check the refrigerant levels and make sure that the coils are clean as well. Also have the condensing unit checked for debris and mold to ensure that it works well.

Check your paint job

Summer is the best season for painting your home. It can make your house look fresh and helps protect your walls from rot and mold.  Preventative touch up jobs can save you a lot of money you would have to spend on repairs. It’s also a good idea to consider pressure washing the exterior walls before you paint, to remove dirt, stains, and mildew that paint can’t hide.

Get rid of expired food products

In preparation for summer grab a garbage bag and start dumping all the food items that have expired or that you won’t be using. Clean out all the debris from your food cabinets and refrigerator. Organize the remaining items so that you only keep the item that have you need and donate the items that you aren’t going to use.

Get Organized

There’s a reason for spring cleaning. After a long winter, it’s an opportunity to give everything a deep cleaning. And when you’re moving things to clean, it’s also chance to get organized

On the next rainy day, take a few minutes to rid yourself of some of your excess stuff. Having less allows you to put everything in its place, which helps you to get and stay organized. When things are organized, returning items to where they belong is easy and quick, giving you more time to enjoy what you love most about summer.
